Artists & Makers Studios Presents It’s About Love and Believing is Seeing

Artists & Makers Studios Presents
It’s About Love & Believing is Seeing
A Year-End Contemplation

Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn in Rockville will present two exhibits in three galleries for the month of December. “It’s About Love” with painter John Bodkin will fill the Gallery Hall. Love has many flavors, many moods…and it provides a very real and meaningful place to find imagery and ideas, flashes of insight that people can connect with, because while universal it is deeply personal and intimate for each of us. “Believing is Seeing” with the Women’s Caucus for Art/DC is an exhibit juried by Rebecca Cross of the Cross MacKenzie Gallery in Georgetown. In the world of science as in much of life, seeing is believing. In the world of art, more often the reverse is true: believing is seeing. In the studio an artist borrows from her own imagination and vision, whether from a very personal inner world, or from the material world around her.

Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville will present two exhibits for the month of December, celebrating the soft opening of this new location. “The Reachable Shore” with renowned figurative painter Judith Peck will be featured in the second floor gallery. Full of life and resilient, the people Judith depicts in her work prove that it is possible to summon great strength and self-distinction and remain unbowed. The thread running through all of her work is about how we heal ourselves in this broken world. Judith Peck’s work will be featured in the January issue of American Art Collector Magazine. The Grand Opening of the New Masters Gallery on the third floor will feature the works of 28 of the area’s finest representational artists in one extraordinary exhibit.

The Ultimate Foam Rolling Workshop

The Ultimate Foam Rolling Workshop
w/ Jenna Coulter
Saturday, August 6th
2:30 – 4:30 pm

The foam rolling revolution is here! Why? Because trainers, physical therapists and educated exercisers have realized that a regular foam rolling regime is valuable maintenance for your body. Foam rolling is actually a form of myofascial release for tight muscles, bound fascia and connective tissue that can inhibit your movement and cause pain. By rolling, you improve tissue mobility, break up adhesions and scar tissue and increase circulation, speeding up the body’s healing and recovery process and improving your movement and performance in everything you do.

In this workshop we will learn foam rolling techniques for the entire body, including the legs, back, hips, neck, arms and chest. As a bonus, we’ll also incorporate balance work on the roller to help strengthen the deep stabilizing muscles of the core, hips, legs and feet. We will finish with some basic mat exercises, incorporating the roller to boost the strengthening power of each move. Your body will feel unbound, free of tension, balanced and strong, and you will have valuable tools to start your own roller revolution!

This workshop is open to all levels. No experience is necessary.

Artists & Makers Studios’ two main galleries will feature the incredible talents of our Resident Artists.  In the past year our emerging and mid-career artists have come together to work and grow and unite in bonds of professional affiliation and friendship that have deepened their skills and talents - and enriched their studio practices.  At Artists & Makers Studios our main duty is to nurture talent, provide opportunities for personal and professional growth, and to maintain an inspiring, welcoming environment responsive to the needs of serious artists – while at the same time welcoming our neighbors and the larger community as a whole.

In the long Gallery Hall, Julianne Fuchs-Musgrave will delight with delicate boxes and books constructed of gorgeous color-soaked paper.  The paper constructions from Julianne’s childhood have evolved into structures that begin with abstract ink paintings.  She approaches her work with a desire to meld functional structure with the freedom of “Color School” abstract paintings.  Each piece incorporates her training as a painter and sculptor.  All of the artworks are handmade, using classic and new art materials: archival inks, and fine art papers.

Artists & Makers Studios, established in October 2014 by artist and arts community builder Judith HeartSong, is located at 11810 Parklawn Dr. Rockville, MD 20852.  The facility has grown by 40% in its first year of operation and is now home to 70 Resident Artists and a growing number of affiliates.  A&M Studios is dedicated to providing a supportive and vibrant environment for artists to realize their creative goals - through studio practice, collaboration, education, opportunities, networking and connecting with the community beyond our doors.
